Color Your Year with Imagination

The Pantone group has spoken and have decided to dedicate this year to imagination, inventiveness, and higher awareness. Pantone just recently announced the new color of the year as Pantone 18-3838 Ultra Violet.

Pantone is a company that started as a printing company who created a scientifically standardized color palette. The colors were put into a book that could be used by designers, advertisers, and artists. As their color book became famous, it eventually became the standard color system. It now serves the world as a base for pulling color.

In the year 2000 they began announcing a color of the year. This would be determined by a board of professionals that would look at political, social, and creative trends, and determine a color for the new year. Once the smoke clears the new color is chosen, and will begin to be seen in everything from make-up to advertising to home décor.

When it comes to designing your home, the sky's the limit. Here are some ideas on how to take advantage of the color of the year.

  • Flooring – There aren’t a lot of flooring products that would come in ultra violet. You may be able to find some tile, linoleum, or carpeting in it, but the best thing to do is pick a flooring that is easy to design around. Current trends are leaning towards the tan and warm grey.
  • Area Rugs – Is there an area in your house that needs a new rug? It would be a great way to incorporate the new color for this year. Tuftex Swag Raspberry Jam or Masland Rug Rocks color 70502 would be perfect for incorporating this great color into your home.
  • Accent Tile – Accent tiles are so fun and can help bring in some color into a room. Use them as a backsplash, in the bathroom, or on any accent wall. American Olean Color Appeal Plum is a perfect tile to use. Mix it with some standard subway tile for accents or use the mesh as a liner.
  • Home Décor – Also don’t forget there are tons of ways to incorporate Ultra Violet in pillows, prints, art, and throw blankets. Get creative with it. You can even find some fun dishware to use in your table setting.
As you go through the year we hope you find inspiration to think creatively, and find fun ways to incorporate Ultra Violet in your home. Feel free to share and tag us. We would love to see them. Have a great new year!
